New Jersey Lawyer-Songwriter Pens a Protest Anthem for Springsteen following DUI Arrest

Fanwood NJ - 02/21/2021 — Eric Harrison is a songwriter ( https://ericharrisonmusic.com ) and civil rights defense attorney (http://methwerblaw.com/people/eric-l-harrison ) from Fanwood New Jersey who - like many citizens of the Garden State - takes Bruce Springsteen very, very seriously. When the story broke two weeks ago of the Boss's DUI arrest in Sandy Hook in November, Harrison wrote a protest song that he recorded on his front porch as part of his weekly Facebook live shows.

The acoustic rendering of “A Jersey-Sized Disgrace” went viral, and a week later Harrison spent a day at the Woodstock, NY recording studio of producer Kevin Salem recording a full band version.  The next day he shot and edited a music video at his law office, on an assortment of snow-covered New Jersey landmarks, and on his front porch where the song was born:

The song is a tongue-in cheek Dylanesque expression of love, rage and devotion:

“The Boss just blew a .02/that’s a quarter of the legal limit

I’d like to see the full report/I’ll bet there’s something fishy in it

Now law enforcement hasn’t loved our man since he sang of the ‘American Skin’

But 41 shots are 39 more than he’d had when they arrested him”

“It's a love letter to the Boss," says Harrison.  “I view it in Freudian terms.  Bruce's music shaped me in my formative years, he's been with me ever since, and I feel like a kid hungering for his daddy's approval.  But I've got several million siblings to compete with. So learning about this setback gave me a chance to tell him I love him in a way that I hope he'll hear above the din.”

Releasing the video and single on the heels of his critically acclaimed album “Gratitude” ( https://happymag.tv/premiere-eric-harrison/ ), Harrison has modest expectations:  “First, as an attorney I want justice to be done, whatever that may be, based on whatever actually happened.  Second, I'd love a thank you from the man himself.  But third and most importantly: I’d really like tickets to the pit at the first post-COVID E Street Band show.  THAT will be a party for the ages!”
