United States, Florida, Altamonte Springs - 06/04/2019 — ecoSPEARS, the Orlando-based cleantech venture, was selected as one of five companies to represent NASA on Capitol Hill this June. The “NASA Technology Day on the Hill” exposition highlights five companies utilizing NASA-invented technologies to represent the space agency and its partners on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Members of Congress and Congressional Staff are invited to attend this interactive event to see firsthand how NASA technologies and partnerships are benefiting Americans every day.
ecoSPEARS is the exclusive licensee of the NASA-patented Sorbent Polymer Extraction And Remediation System (SPEARS), an environmental remediation technology capable of absorbing toxic contaminants like PCBs, dioxins and other chlorinated contaminants, ‘like a sponge.’
“We are extremely fortunate to be one of the companies chosen to represent NASA on Capitol Hill,” said ecoSPEARS CEO and co-founder Sergie Albino. “Showcasing companies that have licensed NASA technologies is important as it gives us a great opportunity to gain visibility with the current and future leaders of our country."
NASA is currently in motion to initiate its next phase of interplanetary missions as part of the space agency’s “Explore Moon To Mars” program. The goal of the program is to ready future generations of humanity for permanent establishments on Earth’s Moon, as well as Mars and a Lunar outpost entitled “Gateway,” to usher in new scientific discoveries and technologies outside of Earth that can also be a benefit for Earth - the same mission of NASA’s Office of Technology Transfer.
“What people may not realize is that NASA innovation spans well-beyond space technology,” said ecoSPEARS Executive Vice President and co-founder Ian Doromal. “NASA’s Technology Program ensures that innovations developed for exploration are broadly available to the public, maximizing the benefit to the Nation.”
NASA On The Hill will allow United States Senators and Senate Staffers to witness the latest advancements of NASA-developed technologies into the private sectors of business. As part of NASA’s “Explore Moon To Mars” program to generate Lunar and Martian economy for private companies and investors, one hope of the June exposition is to create additional federal funding for NASA’s technology development and transfer offices to better aid the space agency in its goal of establishing sustainable human posts around nearby cosmic bodies.
