IIT-KGP Alumnus, Vinod Gupta, talks about importance of analytical skills for future CEO's
OMAHA, NEBRASKA - 03/27/2018 — On the 25th anniversary of the inauguration of the Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM), the founder and IIT-Kharagpur alumnus, Mr Vinod Gupta, spoke on what he believes to be critical skills for business leaders. “Business leaders need to have strong analytical abilities and knowledge of engineering can provide that foundation,” Mr Gupta stated. “Most business schools take students without any analytical background. The students end up lagging behind others when they start their business careers.”
Recently a final-year VGSoM student put these valuable skills to work. Amrutha Bhamidimukkula, won the top award at the Business Standard “Best B-School Project 2017” competition. Amrutha credits her success to the curriculum that she has encountered while at VGSoM, “Apart from good performance in academics and internship, soft skills play an important role such as presentation skills and effective communication.” She also recalls that extra-curricular activities such as debates, competitions, quizzes, dance, drama, etc. that were available through VGSoM helped strengthen these skills to a greater extent.
Prof. Prabina Rajib, Dean of VGSoM says, “Our focus is to groom future managers with strong skills in data analytics, which is why we have introduced six analytics-focused electives. We have Supply Chain Analytics, Business Accounting & Investment Analytics, Banking & Financial Markets Analytics, Introduction to Business Analytics, Advance Business Analytics, and Digital Marketing as our new electives.”
IIT KGP Director P.P. Chakrabarti said the premier institution would look forward to contributing to India’s economic growth through technology-enabled management education. “The management school will be working with other institutions and departments at IIT-Kgp in areas of quality control, medical science, and technology and manufacturing,” he said. “Unlike other management schools, VGSoM has aligned its academic programmes and research with the IIT system,” Chakrabarti added.
