“Smoking Gun-A Murder Mystery” has announced a by invitation only casting call-back in Los Angeles on Tuesday 14th July due to the overwhelming response for the 12 roles being cast. The company had over 5000 submissions and the talented twelve actors who receive the roles will be announced in July.
According to Jill J. Todd, Casting Manager for Wanda-Halcyon Television – “We made sure to follow all Covid 19 protection protocols to safeguard all auditioning actors and casting staff to include casting by video conference. It was a pleasure to be back at the Four Seasons Hotel after being quarantined in Europe. We have brought in Pat Andrew from Europe to oversee the call-backs in California and make the final decision together with the casting committee in the next 72 hours. We are very excited by the quality of the union actors that have applied for the roles.”
“Smoking Gun” is the brainchild of award-winning producer, writer and former BBC executive, Sutish Sharma of New Street Pictures. The manuscript was considered one of the hot Hollywood properties’ of 2016 due to its adaptability to the television series format and it’s cutting edge subject matter. In 2016, Mr Sharma, the creator of the project, sold the rights to producer, Pat Andrew, who helped arrange financing and worked with Mr Sharma as a creative partner. Mr Andrew formerly worked for Hollywood icon, Sidney Korshak, specifically as an advisor to the IATSE Union and then went on to work in finance and acquisitions for Spelling Entertainment on Melrose Place and other Spelling Productions and was recently named one of the Top Ten Producers to watch out for in Europe in 2020.
Sharma is in charge of all auditions in Europe which included auditions that took place on Thursday 9th July in Malaga, Spain at the famed Miramar Hotel. Two other Wanda- Halcyon television shows are holding auditions in Spain this coming week; “Corruption of Justice” based on the best-selling Amazon novel written by George Van Mellaert and “Marked- The Unforgiven” based on another best-selling novel, written by George Christie, former Hells Angels President of Ventura, California. All auditions are by invitation only and are supervised by Sharma and his Wanda-Halcyon team in Spain.
“Smoking-Gun” follows the fictional FBI investigation of a civil rights murder in Los Angeles during the turbulence of the 1980s. The case leads the show’s protagonist, a world-weary FBI special agent, to the Nicaraguan Contras and the inner sanctum of the Central Intelligence Agency and its connection to drug trafficking in Los Angeles.
“After three years in pre-production, and the last few months in Covid 19 “lockdown”, I am very excited to start filming this summer” said writer, Sutish Sharma, from London, England.
According to Lucy Carver of Wanda-Halcyon Television, the final casting call will take place in Spain in the next few weeks and the media agency, Hormiguea, will be coordinating casting in conjunction with Wanda-Halcyon offices.
The production will be filmed in America and Spain starting this summer.
