Drone Pilot’s First Flight Earns Him $1,000

One pilot’s first flight with his drone turned into a very profitable video.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - 06/29/2018 — Hubert Jim Zielinski was the latest winner in the weekly drone video contest hosted by AirVuz.com. Zielinski’s video of Portugal, titled “Amazing Portugal 4K drone footage,” was voted as the winner among a list of five nominees, earning the novice pilot a $1,000 prize.

It was the first time Zielinski had ever flown his drone, a DJI Mavic Air. He purchased the drone just a few days before his vacation to Portugal and captured footage from locations such as Sintra, Lisbon, Porto and Algarve. The Poland-based videographer said he was inspired by the scenery of Portugal and flew his drone all day long.

The Mavic Air, which was used in this winning video, has become a popular drone for hobbyists and experienced pilots alike. At $800, the Mavic Air is one of the more affordable high-quality drones on the consumer market. Its portability has also helped make it a favorite tool as it can easily fit into a backpack.

Each week, the AirVuz curation staff selects five videos as finalists for the contest. Fans have the chance to vote to choose the winner from the five finalists. Zielinski’s submission was voted as the top choice as it beat out four other videos to take home the $1,000 award.

Zielinski’s video of Portugal is just one of many from that country featured on AirVuz.com. Others can be found on the site’s curated collection of Portugal drone videos.

The Drone Video of the Week contest follows the success of the inaugural AirVuz Drone Video Awards, which selected the best drone videos and photos of 2017. Voters chose winners in 13 categories from a total of more than 33,000 videos.
