With over 5 decades of professional experience as a seasoned and trusted Dermatologist for Texas Dermatology Associates, Dr. Menter has certainly proven himself as an accomplished professional and expert in his field. He has demonstrated success not only as a Dermatologist but also as Principal Faculty for Texas A & M Health Science Center, Chair of the Dermatology Residency Program for Baylor University Medical Center, Director for Baylor Psoriasis Research Center, Clinical Professor of Dermatology for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and Chairman for the Dermatology Division for Baylor University Medical Center. Dr. Menter is also Owner & Investigator for Menter Dermatology Research Institute, Director of the Dermatology Residency Program for Baylor University Medical Center, and Chair for the Psoriasis Guidelines Committee for the American Academy of dermatology. His impressive repertoire of prior roles have included, Consultant Dermatologist for Pretoria General Hospital, and Medical Director for the National Psoriasis Foundation Tissue Bank.
Originally born in Doncaster England, Dr. Menter received his MB Bchir from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa in 1966 and his MMed in Dermatology from the University of Pretoria in 1971. Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Menter has been active in his community and recognized worldwide for his outstanding leadership and commitment in the field of Dermatology. He has received many awards, accolades and has been featured in numerous publications multiple years in a row such as Marquis Who’s Who, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World. For 2019, Dr. Menter is being considered to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and for the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). For 2018 he was selected as Top Dermatologist of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP). Dr. Menter has been featured as Top Doctor by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd and Best Doctors in America numerous years in a row. In 2015 & 2018 he received the President Citation of the American Academy of Dermatology. Also in 2015 he received the Annual Clark W. Finnerud Award by the Dermatology Foundation and the Presidential Citation Award by the Stars of the Academy. In 2014 Dr. Menter received the London Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Psoriasis Foundation. From 2004-2012 Dr. Menter was listed as Texas Super Doctors and in 1973 he was the recipient of the Clinical Research Award, by the Imperial Chemical Industries.
Aside from his successful career as a Dermatologist, Dr. Menter is also a sought after lecturer, speaker, published author of 6 books on the topic of psoriasis, contributor to over 394 articles to professional journals, 21 Chapters and Books. Dr. Menter was also an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology. He has served on many boards as President, Secretary and Treasurer and has belonged to numerous organizations.
In August of 2004 Dr. Menter founded the International Psoriasis Council, an international organization comprised of nine Board Members, 74 Councilors, and other members dedicated to raising international consciousness and understanding of psoriasis as a serious autoimmune disease with major quality-of-life implications. He has also been a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Dermatological Association, American Medical Association, the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, British Association of Dermatology, the Dallas County Medical Society, Dallas Dermatological Society, Leaders Society, Society for Investigative Dermatology, Texas dermatological Society, Texas Medical Association and the American Physicians Fellowship for Medicine in Israel. He served as President of the Third-World Congress Psoriasis & Psoratic Arthritic Conference in Stockholm, Sweden, Director of the Psoriasis Symposium for the American Academy of Dermatology, Chairman for the Committee on Standards Care for Psoriasis for the American Academy of Dermatology, Past President of the International Psoriasis Council and Past President of the Texas Dermatological Society just to name a few. In addition to his medical career, Dr. Menter represented the National South African Rugby team (Springbok) in 1968 in France.
Looking back, Dr. Menter attributes his success to his experience, education, mentors he has had along the way and staying passionate in all his endeavors. Dr. Menter says he has been blessed, he loves doing what he is doing, and feels this is just the beginning. When he is not working Dr. Menter enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, 3 children and their 3 grandchildren. For the future, Dr. Menter hopes to continue to make a difference in people’s lives anyway that he can.
