Award-Winning Drone Pilot Adds Another Accolade
Drone pilot Bachir Moukarzel is no stranger to winning awards. Now the Dubai-based filmmaker has added another award to his list.
Moukarzel took home a $1,000 prize for his video “Philippines,” which won the Drone Video of the Week award on AirVuz.com. Moukarzel, a certified commercial drone pilot, captured stunning aerial footage of the Philippines during a recent trip by using a DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone.
Moukarzel previously had one of his aerial photos selected by National Geographic as one of the best drone photos of 2017. That picture showcased the urban jungle of Dubai, with his drone flying high above the city’s brand-new skyscrapers.
For his film that won the contest on AirVuz, Moukarzel said he often had to launch his drone by hand from a small boat. Though challenging at times, the hard work proved to be worth it as he became the latest pilot to pocket the $1,000 prize.
The Philippines is becoming one of the most popular destinations in the world for drone pilots, as is evidenced by the high volume of videos from the Philippines uploaded to AirVuz. The Drone Video of the Week contest follows the success of the inaugural AirVuz Drone Video Awards, which selected the best drone videos and photos of 2017. Voters chose winners in 13 categories from a total of more than 33,000 videos.
