Acupuncturist Theresa Gilmore Is Now a United Health Care/ Optum Care Provider

MIAMI, FL - 02/28/2017 — As of January 2017, United Health Care/ Optum Care has included Acupuncturist Theresa Gilmore in their list of providers. If you are a United Health Care/Optum Care customer and you would like to use acupuncture to help you with pain management, the office of Theresa Gilmore, LAc is an approved provider.

In the last few years, insurance companies have added acupuncture treatment for pain management for the same reason annual wellness visits are now required, big savings. The CDC reports that if everyone in the United States received the recommended preventive care, we could save 100,000 lives every year. The old saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” and the “ounce” in this case turns into big savings for insurance companies as well as healthier customers. Everyone wins.

“Pain, without injury, is an early warning. Don’t dismiss pain, get it checked out and have an acupuncturist do the diagnosis.” says Acupuncturist Theresa Gilmore. She continues, “acupuncturists look at pain in a different way than most other health care practitioners because of the meridian system. For instance, foot pain without injury does not require a visit to the podiatrist. Most of the meridians involved in digestion either begin or end at the feet. An acupuncturist would inquire about digestive concerns with the patient that include the stomach, liver and gallbladder.”

She also states, “If your health insurance does not cover acupuncture or any other alternative options, you can contact them, ask them to add acupuncture and give them examples. They listen to their customers. The squeaky wheel does get the oil. For instance, carpal tunnel surgery costs around $10,000, but the costs of treatments with acupuncture and homeopathy may be closer to $500. The other option to pay for Acupuncture is to use money from a Health Savings Account or HSA. Money in an HSA is not taxed.”

In the State of Florida, acupuncturists are primary care physicians. Acupuncturists use many modalities studied in school, including but not limited to massage, herbal medicine, cupping, gua sha, homeopathy and Bach Flower therapy. This means the acupuncturist and patient have choices when it comes to what type of therapy is best suited for the health concern. Ms Gilmore states, "With acupuncture, there is no need to go from doctor to doctor to get the care you need, which cuts down on medical errors that are plaguing the medical industry. The body is completely connected, like a car, you can’t drive it without all the parts and have them working properly.”
