A Movie about Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend

The 21st Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend on April 19th to 22nd will be the set for the movie “Rockabilly Weekends” and the upcoming film series “Modern Burlesque”

LAS VEGAS, NV - 03/22/2018 — 21 Years of Viva Las Vegas” is a cinematic reality film by executive producer Louie Comella and Big Brand Films. The movie, chronicles the evolution of Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend alongside the event’s founder Tom Ingram. From the early days at the Gold Coast Casino to the present day at The Orleans Hotel, Viva Las Vegas has grown to become the world’s destination event for rockabilly and is Las Vegas’ longest running music festival.

The filming of the Rockabilly Weekends movie was originally completed after last year’s 20th anniversary of the event. The film was previewed to industry professionals and scheduled for release later this year. When it was announced that the Stray Cats were reuniting for their first live performance in a decade and that Jerry Lee Lewis, Duane Eddy and Carl Mann were on the bill, the film’s release was postponed. The production title registered with IMDb and the Nevada film office was “20” Years of Viva Las Vegas, but in light of this 21st year’s music lineup, epic car show, and the world’s largest burlesque event, changing the title to “21” seems more suited to this Vegas based film.

The film’s producer Louie Comella first attended Viva Las Vegas in 1999 and watched it grow over the years. He was inspired to capture it on film along with many of the other cultural elements associated with rockabilly.  “While music is the most import part of Viva Las Vegas, the event brings together several cultures that aren’t really represented in mainstream media,” says Comella. “When you look at the origins of Rockabilly there's more than music that defines what Rockabilly is and has become. Today’s Rockabilly scene, like Viva Las Vegas, is bigger than ever and the rebellion and culture that shook up the 1950s has not only influenced today's music, but changed culture and style forever. We're capturing it on film.”

Tom Ingram and Viva have done a lot for the City of Las Vegas. Over the last two decades, it’s estimated that the event has attracted over a million visitors to Las Vegas. Last year Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman proclaimed April 13 as Tom Ingram Day for his vital role in the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend over the last 20 years. The Food Network filmed an episode of Freed’s Bakery making a cake for Viva Las Vegas, and there was a world record set for Jiving.

This year, besides the 100 bands, classic cars, pinups, and an impressive list of actors, musicians and other celebrities that attend Viva Las Vegas, attendees may see cameras rolling for the Rockabilly Weekends movie or one of the TV series being filmed.  Big Brand Films commenced principal photography on a few productions closely tied to the rockabilly culture, which include the limited film series "Modern Burlesque" and “The History of Rockabilly” which are expected to be released in 2019.

THE MOVIE "ROCKABILLY WEEKENDS - 21 YEARS OF VIVA LAS VEGAS" a cinematic reality film by executive producer LOUIE COMELLA and director of photography GRACIE HENLEY is a BIG BRAND FILMS production in association with TOM INGRAM and VIVA LAS VEGAS ROCKABILLY WEEKENDERS filming on location at THE ORLEANS HOTEL & CASINO in LAS VEGAS, NEVADA for release in 2019.
